IYC's Advanced Studies / Teacher Training Program   - ASTT  brochure

This is a two year program that is open to on-going students of yoga, preference will be given to students of IYC with at least 2 to 3 years experience.   Students may attend on a module basis, the first module will begin October, 2010  to Mar, 2011.   The program will consist of 4 hours of ASTT hours per week, unlimited attendance of the public classes and monthly workshops based on various themes.
The Advanced Studies Program is simply an expansion of what is being covered in the on-going classes, only in more detail including a focus on the philosophy, the values that underlie the practice. This will give the dedicated student an opportunity to work and explore the deeper aspects of yoga individually and as a group, bringing the practice to a level of clarity and intuitive intelligence.

The International Yoga Centre is a Yoga Alliance Registered School - 500 hours level.

Shadow Yoga

Balakrama, the first Prelude form of Shadow Yoga.  The focus is to work on developing a strong foundation with legwork, hip-openings together with a steady rhythm of the breath.  Suitable for beginners with some yoga experience.  Work with the bandhas will be covered. 
Regular class fees:  Block of 4 classes - $100 to be used within a month or Block of 10 classes to be used within 3 months.  Monthly unlimited passes as well may be used.  Please call Joan at 9838 1742 for an appointment.

Sunday morning yoga for beginners class with Helen!
Sundays 9:30 - 11am - yogabasics  .  This will be a community class, on a donation basis.  All proceeds will go to Poh Ern Shih, the temple that runs the JHS Montessori kindergarten at the corner of the compound.  The suggested donation is $15 or more. Yoga basics :  
level 1-2  suitable for beginners            level 2-3 suitable for on-going practitioners

Progressive, clear and precise instructions on the principles of yogic movement, elements of stance work and knowledge of alignment for a solid foundation. Designed to introduce the basic preparatory exercises of the Shadow style of Hatha Yoga which build strength and develop openness of the hips. Classes incorporate as well a firm grounding in the attention to the breath and alignment within the activity based on the Iyengar tradition of yoga. Knowledge of correct movement of the body is essential and will help decrease risk of injury, respecting the first value in yoga which is ahimsa, non-injury or love.
 
Repetition of stances, linking the dynamic actions with an even, rhythmic breath, knowledge of alignment and correct body movements based on the Iyengar method will help the student to gradually build strength, flexibility, will-power and equanimity by staying balanced and centered while in activity. These classes prepare the practitioner for the Prelude Forms and further asanas. It is a patient, compassionate yet a thorough approach.
 



Yoga vinyasa on Mondays, 7:30pm, level 2-3 with Shan is by appointment - 9764 1331.  It is suitable for on-going beginners with at least 6 months yoga experience.

Working from the inside out to create awareness of the spine and back through breath, visualisations and improving muscle and core strength. The first class may be a drop-in, after which, a sign-up for a 10-class course necessary; consistent effort and training is required for results.   yoga4scoliosis

  • NB:  Payment may be made by cash or cheques only.  Please make cheques payable to International Yoga Centre Pte. Ltd.  
  • Validity for a block of four classes is one month, block of 10 classes is three months.  There will be surcharge of $5 for the use of expired classes.


 
Private / private group yoga sessions may be arranged, please call IYC for an appointment.  Each session ranges from one to one and a half hours depending on the individual's capability.  The individual private sessions are invaluable for assessing your body type and it's particular needs.  Attention will be drawn to certain habits and the correct way of working with the body.  A self-practice sequence will be structured accordingly, so that the student can continue with a home-practice.
Fees:   Individual Private session - $120  

 

Part of the rent of IYC Singapore goes to fund charities of Poh Ern Shih, a Buddhist temple that funds charities of the four major religions, targeting mainly the old and sick as well as the young and handicapped.
